A Momma and Her Pups: Saving Twice as Many Lives with AHS’ Fall Match

Great news! The deadline for our Fall Matching Gift opportunity has been extended until October 15th, and each and every dollar you donate to the Arizona Humane Society will be matched up to $74k! That’s right, thanks to the generosity of a group of fellow animal-loving donors, twice as many pets will be helped by your donation, including pets like Jackie.

When Jackie arrived at the Arizona Humane Society last spring from Best Friends Animal Society as part of Project Reachout, she was injured and beyond exhausted with newborn pups in tow. Her babies were immediately transferred to our Mutternity Suites – a specialized isolation unit that offers a quiet, comfortable, and safe place for families throughout the birth process – and Jackie was taken to our trauma hospital for treatment.

Once there, our skilled veterinarian team acted quickly to treat the lacerations to Jackie’s hind leg. They got her stitched up and back to her puppies in no time at all, so she could continue to nurse her babes during this critical time in their development. It wasn’t long before her tiny tots were weaned and running around. Each one was scooped up almost immediately and adopted into loving homes. But Jackie, however, needed a little “self-care.”

Fortunately, one of our Foster Heroes was able to take in the new mom so she could rest and recover. Jackie soon felt rejuvenated and ready for a new loving family. Shortly after being put up for adoption, Jackie found her fur-ever home in Peoria and is the perfect fit for her new family.

Through Project Reachout, our partner assistance program, we transfer in pets from other animal welfare organizations locally, regionally, and nationally who may not have the resources available to care for them when space on AHS’ adoption floor allows for it. So far this year, we’ve transferred in more than 850 pets through the program from our partners in need. Pets like Jackie and her precious pups.
