AHS’ First Newborn Puppies of 2020 are Here!

AHS' Mutternity Suites Have Welcomed the First Litter of Puppies of the Year!

We are excited to announce our first litter of puppies to arrive in the New Year, five American Pit Bull Terriers born in AHS’ Mutternity Suites on January 3 at 6:06 p.m. The litter of four girls and one boy was born to Aphrodite, a three-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, who was rescued by an AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technician™ in December of 2019 after she was abandoned in a backyard with two other dogs. Upon examination in our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™, AHS veterinarians discovered Aphrodite was pregnant and admitted her into the shelter’s Mutternity Suites, a quiet, medically-supervised area for pregnant and nursing dogs to give birth and care for their puppies while waiting for a Foster Hero home. Aphrodite and her pups are just a few of nearly 900 moms and puppies who have been cared for in AHS’ Mutternity Suites since it opened at the end of 2017. Our Mutternity Suites, along with other lifesaving programs like our trauma hospital, Kitten Nursery, Bottle Baby Kitten ICU and Parvo Puppy ICU save the lives of pets routinely euthanized in shelters. Aphrodite's adorable pups are already in an AHS Foster Hero home receiving extra love and care, but anyone who is interested in fostering moms and their babies are encouraged to sign up to be a Foster Hero by completing our fast, easy online orientation!
