Young Girl Reunited with Best Friend After Heart Transplant
Best Friends Reunited
In November, AHS’ Alternative Placement Department received a call about a little girl named Emily who was going into the hospital to receive a heart transplant. In order to protect her fragile immune system and minimize risk, Emily was unable to have any animals around during her recovery, including her beloved family pet, JJ. Emily’s family reached out to AHS seeking a temporary home for JJ and compassionate foster hero David Reid stepped up to the plate, providing the 8-year-old Shih Tzu with all the love and care he needed while JJ waited to go back to his loving family. Last Friday after three months apart, Emily finally got to see her best friend again as the pair came together for an emotional reunion that included plenty of hugs, kisses and smiles – the biggest of which, may have come from JJ.
