From Fractured Leg to Furever Home

Working Together Saves Even More Lives, Including Pets Like Jeri.

Jeri arrived at the Arizona Humane Society with a badly fractured leg through our New Hope Program, in which AHS partners with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control to transfer in pets who need our help.

Our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ veterinarians determined that Jeri’s leg sadly could not be saved. With the support of the Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911) and its Critical Care Fund, our vets made the difficult decision to surgically remove her leg.

Life on three legs, however, didn’t slow Jeri down. She spent several weeks recovering, and this lovable tripod pittie eventually found her forever home in Phoenix.

Jeri’s story is just one example of how animal welfare organizations in our community are coming together to save even more lives. Last year, through New Hope and Project Reach Out (in which we are able to transfer in animals from organizations across the state), we brought in and gave a second chance to 872 animals – a 131 percent increase over the previous year!

By continuing to work with our animal welfare partners, we will save more dogs and cats like Jeri and end animal suffering, homelessness and needless euthanasia in our community.
