Pet Poison Prevention Week is March 17 – 23, 2019.
Hailey, a 4-month-old German Shepherd puppy, was rescued by the Phoenix Police Department. She was found to have been exposed to Methamphetamine and is now receiving treatment in AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™.
Common poisonous substances that pets can encounter include:
Human medications (Ibuprofen, antidepressants, Acetaminophen)
Human foods (avocado, onions, grapes, raisins)
Insecticides (insect baits)
Rodenticides (mouse and rat poisons)
Dietary supplements and vitamins (iron, Vitamin D)
Common household cleaners (bleaches, disinfectants)
AHS’ very own President and CEO, Dr. Steven Hansen, spent 16 years with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), most recently as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer. He is one of a handful of veterinarians board-certified by the American Board of Toxicology and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology.
